HP 34C serial number

I have a HP34C which have the s/n as follow: *2115B00632 (made in Brazil); the point is: does that asteristic in front mean anything special?

I think this may indicate a warranty replacement machine. A lot of times these have no serial number or a hand scribed one, but I remember someone mentioning the '*' was a replacement machine. BTW, US currency that was damaged in printing and redone has a '*' in the serial number also.
