I think it's one of those generic "your logo here" products that you see advertised in in-flight magazines that just happens to have an HP logo on it. I've seen that calculator in many color schemes but never with "HP" on it.

He is correct you can get those cheap calculators for $2 a piece with any logo you want on it! Ironic how someone at HP decided to buy these calculators rather than giving away "real" lower end HP calculators. I guess they were to cheap to give "real" HP manufactured calculators away.
PS: I got the same calc (all black) free when I bought a briefcase, also found a translucent blue version in a parking lot!

The horror! The horror!
What kind of idiot HP middle-manager thought that, of all the stupid give-aways, a calculator was a good idea! Don't these people know what their own company used to be famous for?

Notice that it has the new "hp invent" logo, which was introduced by the same idiots who have turned HP into a company that no longer invents anything...

How much did the least expensive calculator cost, that HP made, when these were given away.
Do you think it was $1.00? Do you think HP was going to give away $80 calculators for FREE, when they could put their Logo on a $1.00 calculator and get just as much FREE advertizement.
Someone needs a lesson in economics.

Not all HP calcs are $80 the lower end ones are $10 or less. The HP 6S has Trig functions and Logs and its under $10. But that is probably still much more than they paid for these promotional calculators.

Hi;
would you help me, please? I'm a lot curious about this fella and, for whatever reason, I cannot see the calcs' photo, and now that Fred mentioned it is RPN, I'm really curious.
Which calc is that? What is the model ID?
Thanks for any clue.

The photo shows a silver LCD 4 banger with an '=' button. So not RPN.

The problem with this or any person there is always a chance he may be ignorant and was taken in by a
scammer. Or, he could be the person that had the logo placed on some units and is the scammer. But either way as far as I understand he is committing fraud. He is responsible for the ad he runs and to verify if in doubt with the manufacturer if it is indeed a valid product. His response doesn't look good for him. Lack of concern doesn't change his liability to you if you buy one in good faith.
His RESPONSE
Hi, Its just a calculator made by HP.

(tongue in cheek) It may not be an HP calculator, but then again, IF it was
a mis-guided promo for HP, then it IS an HP calculator!
And should be added to your collection to make it complete!
Though it does not qualify for HPMuseum
status except as a footnote on some backwater webpage.
It could be considered RPN, if RPN stood for Rotating Panel Nonsense! (The LCD protector rotates to become its stand)

I found one of these (all black, no HP logo) on a Staples clearance stand for a couple of bucks.
I bought it for my youngest precisely because of the rotating LCD protector. It actually has a nice, smooth action. (It doesn't SNAP open, it glides steadily and methodically around to the full-open position -- sort of like some cassette players' doors.)
It's a piece of junk Algebraic four-banger, but one with this nice little touch that sets it apart.
It was my son's favorite until he grew to need a scientific. I tried to interest him in a 32SII, but he accepted the new 30S (or whatever) -- the one with the interchangable face plates. Once again (for my pure-consumer pre-teen, at least) glitz triumphs over substance. But not to worry; he has the rest of his life to cure himself of such tastes!

I bought a cute little calculator like that at Walmart last year. It came with a 10 foot steel tape measure that has a diameter scale on the other side (sometimes called an arborist's tape measure). The calculator and tape measure are color coordinated and the tape measure case has a place to put a photo. I found them in the clearance aisle and paid about $3. The neatest thing about the calculator is that when you trip a catch, the display cover flips up and back and becomes a stand.
That HP would use such a toy as a motivational item might mean they don't know that they make calculators, or that they think a gimmick is more impressive than advanced functions, or that this is what future HP calculators will be like, or that someone at HP thought it was a fun item, as I did.

Yep. It's a "give away". I have one just like it with an IBM logo on it that I got at a trade show. Seems kind of ironic to say the least.

I have one, too! Mine is translucent blue with the SAS logo on the rotating cover and www.sas.com/certification just above the LCD. :-)

Mine is silver painted with a Computer Associates logo on it.
Looks like you can find it all over the world...
