I'm sure this one has been mentioned here before - TED certainly has.

I have it on good authority that Microsoft intend to include something similar in Excel... Excel 2037 I think is the proposed release version.

That's being optimistic. I don't expect Microsoft of ever thinking outside the box like that.

According to my iTunes podcast list, this one was just put up on the TED site. (8/26/09) This same fellow gave a similar talk - with fewer worked out analyses - some time in the past. That may be what you remember seeing.
