512K Memory Card

#2

I have a 512K GX TDS Memory card. When I insert the Memory Card into HP48GX, It gives an Invalid Card Data eroor. Is there a formatting or initialization involved with a new card?

Thank you for your help

Normal, as you have no data in the ports.

check left shift library and then ports. you should have 5 showing; 4 from the card and one internal.

once you port over a programm or data to any of the ports the message will not appear.

you can reference the manual for this info.

Did you use PINIT command ?

Reth is correct;

the PINIT command will remove the message at start up. This however is temporary unless you actually stick something in one of the card ports.

the manual says that the card, once installed is ready and to ignore the warning, or if you choose not to ignore the warning use the PINIT command which will not alter the contents of the card.

Because this thread is derailed. There is a lot of effort here but the content is from the wrong manuals.

The most common TDS 512k cards do not have replaceable batteries. They instead have a small rechargeable cell that charges when the GX is powered up. The most common problem is for the cards to loose their charge and therefore loose memory when the calculator is powered down. The HP 48 manual assumes you have the lithium battery backed HP cards. Therefore, the comments in the manual when discussing a non-removable battery TDS card are not in proper context. There are also some flat out wrong statements being made with respect to the GX.

Doing a PINIT on a good card will clear the message, end of story. You do not need to write anything to a port once the PINIT has been done.

Unfortunately, wrong again. This is from the SX manual. If you receive the message after a PINIT, the card either lost its contents or cannot be read correctly. Further, PINIT does indeed alter the contents of the card, as in destroying anything that may have been there...

The content that will help is on TDS website. Worth a read:
