Is there an advantage in turning it off?
Have you tried covering up the solar cell for 5 mins?
What about smashing it with a hammer - although turning it on again might be a problem - oh for the HP's of old.
The casio (yuk) FX451 solar could be turn off by pressing 3 keys at the same time (this feature was not in the manual). However you had to press them EXACTLY at the same time so it often took several goes. I think the keys were AC, =, Shift.
PS Can you get the TEXET Albert II in the US? Here in the UK it looks exactly like the HP6(S). There is now a TEXET Albert III with a 2 line display and horrible user interface - any HP's in the pipeline like that?

Pal,
I think the solar type is joke from HP, well you have to take off the battery (battery?)and put some tape over solar cells ;)
If you want to keep it only solar powered just keep it without the battery but it wont work at half-light.
