Success, soaked my hp 15C...

#4

keyboard in running hot tap water then let sit in a hot water bath. Followed by a soak in 50% isopropyl alcohol and then a 2 hour stint in my drying box.

1. This repaired the bounce on the 1 key
2. The annoying click that occurs after the key was released on
the EEX, 4, 6, 3 keys(due to sticky residue from a spill?)

In more detail I covered the LCD and chips with cloth and rinsed the keyboard under hot water tap. I carefully avoided getting water under the display as there is no way of cleaning that without removing the keyboard plastic welds.

I then took an ear lavage (rubber ball with pointy end that you fill with water) and forcefully (the ball does not do to much force so not to worry) injected hot water into the offending keys from the key side as this is the side that traps the sticky substance in the membrane causing the sticky key syndrome.

Then I rinsed with isopropyl alcohol and injected the alcohol into the key side again. A quick forced air spray and then the drying box.

The dry box is a shoe box with a hole in the end for the business end of the hair dryer and another hole cut out on the lid to vent the air. This particular hair dryer has a high heat, low heat and cold setting as well as high and low on the fan. I use low heat with the low fan setting while I am actually at the box, this way you can regulate the temperature of the electronics (DON'T fry the calc). When I leave the box I placed the heat selection to cold and the fan to high. This set up has the benefit of directing the airflow to the entire keyboard and by reversing the calculator in the box both sides of the keyboard are dried.

Ran the self test and the keyboard test which both passed. The calc now has the HP feel to it as well as no bounce and no secondary clicks.

If you want pictures I can post them, any questions, just ask.

LOVE the 15C

Geoff

During my bunk time ;-)

Of course if you see my head you would wonder about the necessity of a hair dryer ;-)
