BTW, the older engineer's calc is an HP-28S; the younger one's is a TI-89. That is typical, from what I've seen and heard. One of my colleagues went through engineering school in the late 1980's. He had an HP-41CX, but also noted that some students would demonstratively flip open their HP-28's as an exam started, presumably to make an impression. My younger colleagues in their 20's use TI-80 series calc's, though. I used an HP-15C in the early 1980's and again in the 1990's.
