How tempting is it to hit that "Make an Offer" button!

Yes indeed. However, the postage would be at least an order of magnitude more than what I'd be willing to offer :-)

My bid was going to compensate for the postage cost.
Just how low can you bid on Ebay anyway? ;-)

Dave.

I didn't think negative bids were allowed... :-)

Yes. Especially with this in the description: "But no one was interested in buying a limited spredsheet machine for $895"

How about buying a limited vintage spreadsheet machine for USD12,800?

#13

With that kind of money I can buy a PC that drives my car!!!

So, if I make an offer of $5, will ebay ban me from all future bidding?

The Workslate was first launched in the American Express Christmas catalog, and was sold as a high-tech novelty product. But no one was interested in buying a limited spredsheet machine for $895. Convergent Technology planned to sell 200,000 units within a year, but only 5,000 systems were sold in the U.S.A plus some hundreds in Europe. The product was discontinued in July 1984, and the company lost about $15 million.

now someone is trying to fix their lost ;)
surely it's ok to bid lower where they say "make offer" and that's what they actually expect.
cheers,

I'm fairly sure there is no rule against ridiculously low (but in this case fair) offers like that. The seller simply gets to accept or reject each offer.

Exactly. But you are limited to three offers per auction, after that, you can't bid on this auction any more. I know, because I've done this several times with a guy who used to place ridiculously high priced calculators on eBay Germany: First offerd 1 Euro, end every time he refused the offer, I increased by one Cent :-) After I had done this several times, he somehow managed to ban me from all his auctions.

Greetings, Max

All sellers are able to ban buyers (up to 1000 of them) from bidding on any of their auctions.

Dave.
