Re: Upcoming interview with Tom Osborne

I think the most obvious question has not been suggested...

"Do you have any prototypes, models or documentation you'd like to add to my
modest collection for historical preservation?"

(wink,wink,nudge,nudge)

Thanks to all who provided good questions. As to the question of artifacts that Tom Osborne might have, that turns out to be interesting. Most of his HP 9100 stuff is at the Smithsonian. But as Tom continues to think about the upcoming interview, which will now occur in December, he keeps finding interesting odds and ends.

One tidbit: the HP 35 was designed with the HP 65 in mind. After the HP 9100 project, Tom knew that there would be a market for a programmable handheld so he held out for the hooks needed to move quickly from the HP 35 to the HP 65.

Listening to Dave Cochran's interview, that makes perfect sense, because he kept indicating that Bill Hewlett would repeatedly ask about the pocket-size version of the 9100 - and that was programmable. Had Bill been asking for only a non-programmable version, you'd think Dave C. would have mentioned that Bill suggested such a beast. I'd bet that he simply asked for a "pocket version of the 9100" and left it at that, and my guess is that after the HP35 team did their research, they probably came back to Bill and said that they could only do the non-programmable one first.
