Re: HP-35S (Italian documentation)

I guess my boutade about the fact I'm bearded started a sub thread about razors uses.

Let's get back to the matter:

it's a call to all Italian users who got a brand new HP-35S:

what do you think about the manual? Don't, we Italians, deserve something better? Or don't we deserve anything at all? Then why?

In all cases, I'd prefer the English version, translations always lose something.

I am sorry to hear the Italians been given a bad manual!

If nothing else this should get somebody at HP to publish the pdf of the english manual right now! Realy suggest that you and other Italians complain to HP about this!

Ciao Antonio.

Agreed. I think that's the definitive conclusion to any lament we may have, as far as HP related docs go...

I've still to see a decent Italian translation of an English HP doc...

And, of course, I agree also that

but I'm afraid this is shared among most of the non-English speaking people when it comes to docs (I'd like to be proved wrong, however :-)

In the meanwhile, I'm lending a hand - whenever possible - to some folks in need of a translation for HP software (just trying to make this world better ;-)

Cari saluti.

Manuals from the past (I still remember, and have, the HP-41C ones among others) were properly translated in italian... and it was a pleasure to read them "coast to coast" ;)

The old one where made in a more civilized time...

Funny thing, after a got my 41 repaired I got realy motivated go hunting in old stuff stored away, and managed to find most of the manuals. Suprise, I did not remember, but the main manual for the 41 and card reader where in Sweedish!

Normaly that would been an insult to a Norwegian, but can not remember being upset about it, propably because I liked the manuals for what they where; very nice manuals.

So it seems those days they would make a decision like 'we got quality manual in this language that is understandable in this market, lets run with it'.

But these days, we must make native manuals because then we are 'user friendly' (never mind the manual itself is crap).

It just supports what I am saying that 50g is not sold in Norway because the manual has not been translated yet! I can't imagine anyone here buying it would not actual prefer an english manual.

After high shool you do not see a text book in natural sciences not in english anyway for god sake!

I can add HP-34C manuals (I have them but not the calculator!), or the manuals for the HP-48SX (again, got them but not the calculator), or the manuals of the HP-32SII (I know the guy who made the translation, he lives in Treviso, near me, he's a technician who works in the calculators world, so his translation was proper).

There was a time when you could buy an HP calculator and have a very good manual in Italian, the same of the English version (same figures and diagrams, same footnotes, same index), but in a very good and practicable Italian.

Those manuals where work of art, indeed!

Now, if for me, I'd go for the English version, no matter who made the translation. I don't trust HP anymore, in this sense.
