HP-97

#4

Recently I discovered an HP-97 towed away somewhere in the office and I managed to become the administrator of it. Inside the (somewhat torn) cardboard box I found:

an HP-97 with paper roll and defective card reader

an adapter

a carrying case

an Owner's handbook and programming guide

a set of programming pads

a brochure on software

the standard pac manual

and ...

a set of programming cards of the standard pac

Now, this last item seems special. A case with 15 preprogrammed cards, 24 blank cards and an abrasive card for cleaning the recording head. This very complete set is in very unused condition.

The cards are numbered from 1 to 15 with a letter attached to it. At first I thought that A and B were the first and second card of the same program, but I'm in doubt now. The manual mentions f.e. 12B as the only card. All but one card are as described. Nr. 11 being the exception: 11A in the manual, 11B on the card itself. It looks more like a revision indicator to me.

I've put the thing on my desk now; looks cool and it's always handy for a quick calculation.

PS. behind the box was a second HP-97 with carrying case and adapter. This set in bad condition, though it still computes.

It's the program version, as you've deduced.

Hi
I also found a nice condition HP 97 about a year ago. THis now sits on my desk as my desk calculator, it looks and feels much niced than any desk calculator you can buy today and I use it every day for simple tasks like price calculations, tax calculations, discounts etc. The nice clear display, overall build quality and positive key action makes it a pleasure to use as a day to day desk calculator.

I repaired my card reader which now works OK but dont use it, the printer also works fine and I occasionally use this

Looks really great on the desk, Havent seen any modern desk calculator that comes anywhere near the look and feel of this unit!
