Anyone else with a broken idler gear in their HP-97 printer? I read the fine article by Katie Wasserman ("HP Printer Gear Replacement," 15 Nov 2000)telling how to modify a stock gear to work in the HP-97's. The cost today (considering minimum order charges, etc) comes out to nearly $30.00 for the raw materials of a gear and the nylon sleeve insert. These must be modified before they will work. I got a quote to have the exact gear made in quantities of 12ea and 25ea. The costs were approx $35 each for quan=12 with a price drop to $21 each for quan-25. Are there 12 to 25 folks out there who would like to make a group purchase of the exact gear? Please contact me for details if you are one of them. If I can get enough folks together by 10/15/05, I'll spearhead the project.

Hi David,
Did you place the order?
How many interested folks did you have?
I wonder what Stock Drive Products would charge in quan's of 12 & 25? Perhaps you could email the details of your inquiry to me at DrD@2020.com or FAX the quote you received to me at 434.296.3100? I will investigate further.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi;
I'm interested in some of these, but I think that in my case, it would be a good idea having some more Brazilian guys interested too, so we could share mailing costs.
I've been contacted by one of the Brazilian contributors in here and asked him to comment about this idea of mine.
Please, guys, let us know what comes next.

I never ordered the gears. I bought 25 stock gears for $4.50 each and milled down the hubs and added a bushing to the hole.
If you are going to have gears made, I would go with the 100 piece run. You will find homes for them. I used about 10 of mine, and the rest went rather quickly without me having to do any advertising.

Hi David,
May I ask, from whom did you order those gears? I'd like to give your source a call if it's different from mine.
Thanks,
Mike
BTW gang, only 2 MORE GEARS ORDERS NEEDED to reach our 12ea pricing -- let me hear from the "other 2" of you..

Stock Drive Products (sdp-si.com) has the stock gear that is easily modifed and also gave me the $9.00 quote for custom gears. Pic Designs also has the stock gear.
