Square or Round decimal point on the 50g
#1

Is there a screen shot of the 50g decimal point on the web? I'm interested in knowing if it is of square or round shape. I much prefered the square and bold decimal point of the Pioneer and the Voyager series. But lately seems like the decimal point of most calculators have turned to round in shape.

The LCD screen on the 49 and 50 cals is entirely made up of square LCD pixels...there are no "dedicated" LCD segments for a decimal point like on many other calculators. So the decimal point is square, but it is made up of a grid of 4 square pixels, so it is very easy to see.

Hi Timespace. You can modify the look of the decimal point somewhat by selecting CHARS (right shift, EVAL) and using the pixel editor to turn pixels on and off.

I used this method to modify the number three so that it didn't look like the number eight.

Enjoy!

John

Hmmm, how do I edit the minifonts on the 50G?

Mmmh, The HP32SII has a perfectly round decimal point. And it's a Pioneer! But you're right: the HP17BII has a four-pixel square decimal point.
