Sliding rules issuing
#1

According to my previous thread answers about the Diwa 12.5, I assume that, if no date is reported on the slide rule/the box/the case/the manual or anything else sold with it, there is no possibility to find when it's been made.

Correct?

:)

If it contains organic material (leather, wood) try the radio carbon (C14) method.

:)

#3

Unfortunately, I don't need to radiocarbon date the leather case of my Pickett 12" slide rule to know how old it is...

:)

#4

14C has a +/-40 year margin of error, so it wouldn't be of much use for most slide rules.

#5

This method tells you only when the cow has died, but not when the case was made. And the plastic is not "organic" at all in this context. Bad luck!

(Der Vorschlag war ja hübsch, aber ein bisschen sollte man schon über die Grundlagen wissen. Sch... Physik!)

Don't take the thread too serious! :-))

I didn't know about the 40 year margin but I didn't mention the plastic at all, just wood and leather. Given the number of cows dying each day for food you can expect that it doesn't take too long to produce and further process the leather.

Ok, boyz, so now my only hope is to contact some spirit who can see "beyond"! ;-)

Do you know some slider rules specialized medium?

"Do you know some slider rules specialized medium? "

If they are as good as they claim, they'll contact YOU!

Antonio,

Why not ask directly

Giovanni Pastore directly at: giopastoreREMOVESPAM@katamail.com

After browsing his site, I suspect he is the kind of guru you're seeking.

And as an added bonus...he's italian :-)

Good luck!

Etienne
