New Datafile articles
#1

Hi, all:

During the very next weeks I'll upload to my web page a number
of my Datafile articles, in PDF format, to complement the ones
already available on-line. These will include:

    HP-71B Fantastic FOUR 8 pages
HP-71B Short & Sweet Sudoku Solver 10 pages
HP-71B Sudoku Solver Sublime Sequel 9 pages
(all) Mean Matrices 11 pages
HP-71B Minimax Polynomial Fit 12 pages
The following recent ones are only available in the printed Datafile magazine:
Long Live the HP-16C! 5 pages
25 Years of Othello 8 pages
Long Live the HP-25! 7 pages
As mentioned, my 12 previous PDF articles already on-line can be found at my web site.

If you're interested in any of them, make sure to grab them timely, because I'll eventually need to remove them to reclaim some free space for other materials.

Best regards from V.

Valentin --

Thank you again for advising us of your Datafile articles. I downloaded most of them (they are compact in storage requirements), and will look for the newly-posted ones.

A very impressive sampling of your "body of work" in this area!

Best,

Hi, Karl:

Thanks a lot for your continued interest and very kind words.
I'll do my best to upload the remaining promised ones as soon
as possible, it's simply that I'm having some problems with the
ftp server and an interfering proxy, but eventually I'll manage.

The PDF format is usually very compact and convenient, wish that Mr. Hicks would allow PDF submittals in MoHP's Articles section but so far I've been unable to convince him. And of course, such formats as PDF are mandatory to preserve fonts, formatting, images, etc., so that interested readers get a true facsimile of the article as originally published.

Within a few days I'll post my S&SMC#14, hope to see you attacking it with all your considerable might. :-)

Best regards from V.

Although I agree with the sentiment, the last thing I'd ever want for my site is to have a tons of people downloading everything at the same time. This will bring my short term bandwidth usage over my monthly maximum and incur additional charges.

Do you get charged only by disk size or do you have a monthly cap on bandwidth?

Hi Vassilis,

I have no idea about any limitations. This is a free french web hosting service I found 8 years ago or so. Initially it was called "mygale", then changed to "multimania", then changed to "lycos".
Despite all these changes, it seems all hosted web sites were kept and weren't trashed at all, unlike a mirror site I created at Geocities, which eventually disappeared.

Of course, I've never been charged a cent for the site, and it's never been taken out of line for bandwidth excesses or such, so I siimply get it going. By the way, the calc site is a later addition to the original computer chess-related site ("Chess Tests"), which has also been around for 8 years. That's almost "eternity" in these fast changing Internet times.

Thanks for your interest and

Best regards from V.
