HP48 SMI RAM card on eBay

This went for $350.00 -- which seems reasonable for a retail 2MB RAM card...

...until you realize that there is no way to change the card's battery. Weren't these cards' batteries designed for 10 years? What happens when the batteries die. Will SMI replace them for you? Or are you up the creek without a paddle?

I was bidding on it and was suprised to see how much it went for. Of course a nice 15c just went for $610.00 tonight. Of course there were many Zero Feedback folks bidding. Makes you wonder what people are thinking. I hope the seller doesn't get taken.

I thought the battery on thess cards just slid out the top of the card....

Joe, did you realise that every post you make has a subject line of "HP 48gx construction quality question"? I don't know why this is happening, but it's a bit distracting

Best,

As far as the Hewlett Packard cards, and a few other non-HP brand cards are concerned, the battery DOES slide out from the top. However, SMI did not design their 2MB card to have such a feature. There is a battery, but without access to it, it will eventually die out.

You can read more about it via this comp.sys.hp48 post.

That happened to me a while ago. My browser had prompted me to save the password on a post, and it also saved the subject line apparently.
