HP 48gx Advanced User Reference AUR
#1

Hey folks,
I am looking everywhre for the 48gx AUR. It seems I can download the quick start and User's manual from several locations, but I cannot find the AUR anywhere...and it doesn't seem to be on the MoHPC DVD either. Any advice?

Joe: ...You can purchase the AUR from www.CalcPro.com. $30.

Yes, that's what I did.

I was surprised to find I have no PDF version lying around. That probably means that there isn't one in general circulation. There's a user written dictionary of all the keywords in the User RPL vocabulary of the HP48G. That's the bulk of what the AUR is, but the tutorial isn't included. Ibiblio seems to be having a problem at the moment, so hpcalc.org is down. Once it comes back, you can download the reference from the HP48 documentation section, under programming, I believe.

Howard

I think it must be - I have one here. The file is called hp48gaur2.zip (but I might have named it that to avoid a name clash with the hp48gaur.zip which contains an HTML reference someone created). Where I got it from, I have no idea - but it can't be hard to find, or I would never have found it.

I know I got the PDF's of the User's Guide from the official HP site.

Ah found it. The search didn't locate the manual, but some sifting through the website was all it took.

I will probably pick up a couple of other books as well.

Thanks all.

Hi Joe,

I just spent 5 minutes using Google seach for

hp-48gx aur

and second page of searches turned up following link

http://hpcalc.kn.vutbr.cz/hp.php

which has a pdf of the 764 page HP-48G AUR Manual.
The picture on the cover is the HP-48GX, so I think this manual covers both 48G and 48GX.

It's about a third of the way down the page and is listed
as

HP 48G Series Advanced User's Reference Manual

Link directly to the PDF file is

hp48gaur.zip

Enjoy your reading.

Google is so cool. A search for "hp48gaur -andrew" Gave me lots of hits. (andrew.cmu.edu is the home site for the HTML reference written by a user.) One was from here that pointed to http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/docs/programming/hp48gaur.zip. I followed that link to find that a) it's the HTML user doc file, and b) it works even though ibiblio's mysql is hosed, so the index documents on hpcalc.org aren't working. The first Google hit was to just such an index page, which I had skipped. But then I remembered the Google cache! Clicking on the cache link for that first hit got me this link to the file you are looking for: http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/docs/misc/hp48gaur.zip

And it works just fine. Hee hee! 8)

Hi Howard,

I just knew it had to be at the HPcalc.org site, but for some reason when I go it it I get a whole page of following error messages:

Warning: mysql_query(): ........

Not sure why I'm getting that. Maybe I got something turned off or on in my browser? Oh - just re-read your message and you comment on index being messed up - so I'm guessing it's a problem with HPCALC.

Anyway, Joe should now be busy reading the AUG :)

If that's the zip that I have, it's rather curious; the zip file is 36 MB in size, WinZip reports that the file it contains is 40 MB in size, but when unzipped, it's only a 5 MB PDF!

Bizarre.

I guess you were able to bend Google to your will better than I.

Thanks.

Scratch that - KDE's Konqueror was mis-reporting it, for some reason. It's really around 38 Mibibytes. ;)

It's the company that hosts hpcalc.org - Ibiblio. The reason I know is that groklaw.org is also down, and also hosted by Ibiblio. Specifically, it's the MySQL database that is hosed, as the above error shows.

For reasons of work, I find myself flying tomorrow from the San Francisco Bay Area, where we have been enjoying an early spring, to Pittsburgh, to join the East Coast folks who are getting treated to a late winter. Swell, just swell. 8)

So did you manage to fly in? Philadelphia International was closed all day today

My flight arrived at 5:30 and there was no problem by then. The connecting flight to Pittsburgh was delayed by half an hour - no big deal.

I lucked out in the air, but on the ground, I got lost looking for the shortcut to I-79 that the guy at the Enterprise counter kindly directed me to. So I saw a little bit of snow-covered Pittsburgh suburb around Moon in the dark. I don't know what all the fuss is about driving in the snow. Piece of cake. 8) But I made it in OK, for all that.

Howard
