SCAM: "HEWLETT PACKARD PROMOTIONAL LOTTERY"
#1

Watch out for some advance fee fraud spam doing the rounds which appears to come from "HEWLETT PACKARD PROMOTIONAL LOTTERY <hwplotterypromouk@yahoo.co.uk>".

I just received one of these; it starts like this:

HEWLETT PACKARD PROMOTIONAL LOTTERY
3b Olympic Way, Sefton Business Park,
Aintree, Liverpool, L30 1RD
FROM: THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR PROMOTIONS,
INTERNATIONAL PROMOTIONS/PRIZE AWARD DEPARTMENT,
________________________________________________
RE: Official Notification of Winning (HWP 2005)

and the continues with the usual blurb. HP afficionados will spot the obvious errors - like referring to "HWP" rather than "HP". It's just interesting that the scammers are now using the name of a high-tech company (which obviously has nothing to do with lotteries). I wonder if they've harvested email addresses off this site in order to target their mailing? If so, they would have had to hand-edit mine. . .

Best,

--- Les

hi les,
thanks for the info. i just got a notification of winning. boy it sure looked inviting, glad you guys were there with info. i'm not dumb enough to send them money to get money but i shudder to think what could have happened if i had even answered their email. i'm pretty much a rookie on a computer anyway.

thanks again,

dwight todd

I feel like an idiot... i sent them my address and cell number, nothing more, they never asked me for money or any banking info. Thank god...it could have been worse i guess. Do these people have nothing beter to do then screw around with peoples minds? Get a real job and make your own money! Do you guys think I will be okay with the info i gave them?

I also received the same letter & I also gave them my address, phone #, and dob, i hope nothing happens

WHAT THE HELL? I THOUGHT THIS WAS A REPUTABLE COMPANY, THIS LOTTERY STUFF IS NOT WHAT I EXCPECTED FROM THIS COMPANY, I WILL HAVCE A LAWYER ON THIS ISSUE IN THE MORNING

#6

Now seriously ... you really think HP will scam people???? It's probably someone phishing for information under the pretext of an HP lottery. You might help HP by forwarding that email or link to them and let THEIR lawyers deal with it. If you ask me, this approach will be a a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER than you mortgaging your house to pay for lawyers.
