HP-41CV clearing malfunction
#1

I have two HP-41CV calculators with surveying pacs that I have used for many years (trouble free). Recently, one has been not clearing properly. When you attempt a routine: press the gold shift key, then press the clear x/a key, instead of the display showing 0.0000, it shows "DSP BRG?" This calculator otherwise appears to perform all other related (surveying) functions properly. I wondered if anyone has ever experienced this problem and if so, if they might have any ideas regarding a repair solution? If so I would appreciate if that someone would consider sharing same with me. Thank-you.

Hi, Tom;

please, allow me a silly question. Have you tried either of both:

1)removing the SURVEY module, or
2)checking if USER mode is active?

Maybe, just maybe, the 'Display bearing' routine is assigned to the [CLx] key, and either of both actions should solve the problem. The worst case would be removing the module (calculator OFF, of course), trying [CLx] while USER mode is active and having a NONEXISTENT message, meaning an internal function/program was actually assigned to it (XROM something).

BTW, if USER mode is active, simply press the [USER] key to deactivate it (it's a toggle key, so you can turn USER mode back on again anytime you need).

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Dear Tom,
He is right. I don't know this module a lot.
But did you made a key asignment?
Please remove your module(s) and press SHIFT <-.
If you see something like XROM ... , you have a key assignment on that key.
You can easily remove it (display shows " "):
SHIFT ASN "ASN _"
ALPHA ALPHA "ASN _"
SHIFT "ASN -_"
<- "ASN -44"
That's all ...

Dear Luiz and Emmanuel:

Thank-you both for the quick response. You were both right on track with identifying the problem! Once I determined that a function had somehow been incorrectly assigned to CLx key, it was a simple fix. Your help is greatly appreciated. THANK-YOU.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
