More software (and ideas etc.) needed for the museum
#1

I've been too busy to do much in the way of updating the museum lately, but I'm hoping to get some time within the next month or two.

So, if you have some HP software available, I'd be happy to help you get it into an appropriate form for posting.

All types of programs are needed.

I'll soon be adding a section on HP CPU programming and a Java version of Eric Smith's Microcode simulator.

I'm also open to other ideas for expansion or improvement.

Perhaps it's time to make a full sub-catagory out of the pioneer series. There are still four on the market, but the youngest (32SII) is nine years old. Besides, the Voyager series is there even with the 12C still on the market.

I'd like to see an image of the back label of an early 12C. Maybe put it side-by-side with an image of the back label of a new 12C.

Testimonials from members of the early design teams would be interesting.

You say you don't have the bandwidth to make the manuals available for download. Perhaps someone else (like HP themselves) could host a download site, and you could provide a pointer.

Thanks Dan. I still tend to feel that the Pioneer series is still a bit too new to do entirely and the I think the only models I'm missing that aren't still sold are the 21s and 17b. I'll take a look at those. I'll see what I can do about a 12C back label.

If you know anyone at HP who is willing to talk about calculator development, please let me know. I've gotten lucky in a few cases but I find that most of them don't want to say too much.

I've tried to work out a couple of projects with HP but lately, they seem to be focused on new things and have very little time to devote to calculator history projects.

The HP-65 programs used by NASA during Apollo-Soyuz would be
interesting. You might not be able to get them, and they
might not even still exist, but it would be worth a letter
to NASA to ask.
