HP-31E

Just got a fairly new HP-31E. The serial number start with a * (ie *1837S30971) and it display ',' instead of '.' as decimal point and '.' instead of ',' for thousand seperator. Is this an European model ? Can any one throw some light in this unusual serial number and was there an European model for HP-31E ?

I read (somewhere on this site I think) that the * serial numbers mean the new construction method. See this page for construction methods:

And yes - it's a European version.
