any experience with Jornada replacements?

Just got off the phone with the new HP. Getting an in-warranty replacement for my Jornada 565.

About 1/2 inch in a vertical line on the left half of the screen is blank - nothing displayed. Don't think I've particularly mistreated this unit...I carry it alot and it does sometimes get bumped, but haven't thrown it against walls or anything.

My concern is that they are "going to look over the unit returned" and if they decide the damage was customer caused, may call me back to have to pay for the replacement. How do I know whether this was caused by "misuse" etc.? They could tell me it is even though I don't think I've been abusive, etc. with it.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of HP replacement?

good points: Easy to get hold of an HP person...very nice and helpful...the replacement will arrive next Tuesday...I then ship my bad unit to them...very simple.

I've not had any direct experience with jornada replacements- but I did have this argument with visor once.

The hardware is designed to carry in a pocket, purse, or pouch daily- all the time. that's the *point* of the device. Normal use includes some amount of bumping. Not dropping off a balcony or throwing your backpack on the floor, but some impact is goign to be normal.

That made sense for the visor rep I talked to and I got a replacement for a flaky power button pretty fast.
