It looks like the HP-15C Clone will soon be ready:

Michael has priced it at Swiss Francs 50 (excluding shipment). that's a very attractive proposition :-)

I will definitely place an order.

It is pretty intriguing, especially because of its size. Not sure I'm in love with the keyboard though; in my experience, using keys like that is an exercise in frustration. Still, I requested notification when it ships, and depending on the reviews here, I may just shell over the 50 Fr.

i wonder if the designer would care to port his code to the 15C-LE, to produce a fully working version (of the LE)...

That is a great idea. As I have given up hope that HP will ever deliver a bug free firmware, I would even consider paying that porting effort!

From the 'features' tab on his site:

Quote:
based on the original microcode of the HP-15C

I guess he (will) license(d) the code from HP, so we're out of luck here.

Alexander, even if this is genuine code in his clone, do you seriously consider it being bugfree? Or more reliable than the emulated 15C by HP?

Remember, there's currently no way to get the original 15C LE firmnware back into the machine!

Hier könnte sehr gut der Teufel mit dem Beelzebub ausgetrieben werden.

The complete quotation is:

"based on the original microcode of the HP-15C doing the exact same thing and a little more ..."

So, it appears that the code is different. Besides, since it's downloadable from the site:

"initial 'vanilla' firmware: firmware_vanilla.hex"

it's unlikely to be licensed from HP

Once it were ported, I am sure there would be a good chance of a community effort to make it bug free or even enhance it a little! Both machines could profit from that.

Hopefully, the RoHS hardware of the machine survives until this community effort is ready to rock *rolling eyes*.

Thank you, Vince. I omitted the last part of the sentence not for the bad. "doing the exact same thing", in my eyes, means a plain copy. Obviously I'm wrong here since, as you've pointed out, there's the firmware available.
