This raises an interesting question. *If* such a kit were to be created to, say, add IR or a hard connection port (at minimum), would NCEES still allow the calculator on the FE and PE exams? It seems that if you get a bunch of engineers together with a common goal of removing the entire set of test questions, it would be a practice that would surely get the calculator banned. It is my understanding that is the sole reason there does not exist such a port on this model.

Such a calculator would already be banned, i.e., the 35s is allowed, not some modified device. Attempting to use such a device would violate their rules and subject you to their penalties. I don't really agree with the NCEES calculator policy. Someone could do just as you postulate, and get away with it, but I could not use a real 15c (or 15c LE) because it is not on their list.
