I have not been paying attention to what HP is doing in calculators lately, and missed the HP 15C LE. Does anyone know (other than e-bay) where one can buy one at the list price, or if they will be available for purchase on the HP website again?
Thanks!

Someone posted that they have been recalled from dealer stock to fix the key click problem (I think that they heard this from The Bach Company). But we have not heard directly from HP on this issue. TW, care to comment?

1) You can buy 7 of these for the price of one HP 15C LE @ MSRP
2) No keyboard problems
3) No battery current drain problem and uses cheaper AAA batteries
4) Pause function works properly
5) Much nicer case
6) Reset button on back (no need to remove batteries and short contacts to reset)

But that's a financial calculator... The thread title says "15C".
I don't understand the point of this 12C anniversary edition. There were already two types of 12C available (regular and platinum). The AE is a third one. The 15C, that's what it's all about!

If they can sell more calculators that way, why not?
There will probably be a regular 15c w/o the fake snake-skin box, and with no printed manual, sold in a blister pack, once thy get the production problems ironed out.

I have to wonder what the truth to the recall rumor is. After all, most seem to agree that the 12C+ was not having keyboard problems and hardware-wise they are essentially the same machine. So what exactly are they going to "fix" on/with the 15C LE?
Cheers,

Someone did a tear-down and found some foreign material under the key snap dome, or whatever they call it, on a non-registering key.
Perhaps indicating some basic industrial clean-room assembly issues?

That's what I've heard as well, with an expected arrival of mid-November and also from the Bach Company. It looks like they're taking email addresses for a waiting list.

I called HP Business a couple days ago, and they told me that my delivery was pushed back to December. . . .

The 15c LE has a reset "hole" under the battery cover. Should be no need to remove the batteries and short the contacts.

Another important detail missing from the HP 15c LE Owner's Handbook. I wonder if the soft reset mentioned on page 63 (ON / -) actually works on the 15c LE.

I am pretty sure it does. I don't want to clear the memmory of the one I have with me at the moment, I will try it on my second unit on Monday.

OK, I'd prefer to just order through HP if they are still going to be available at some point. The price on their website is $100. Not familiar with The Bach Company, but looks like they want $129. Has anyone had success at ordering them from HP at this point? Or do I need to wait until they are "in stock" again on the website?
Thanks!

At this point, I don't think that anybody outside of hp knows if or when the 15c LE will be available again. Hopefully they are checking all the units that were produced in the first batch to weed out any with bad keyboards and will at some point put the rest up for sale. As far as ordering from hp, I don't think you have any other choice than to wait until they are "in stock" again.

I had placed an order via the HP SMB (Small & Medium Business) site in mid-October (18th), which has been in backorder status, since. Last week, I called the SMB customer service number to inquire on the availability and/or possible re-stock of the 15C LE. I was transferred to someone else who stated that the entire inventory had been pulled from the warehouse and sent back to the manufacturer (Kinpo?) due to a "quality control issue" (this is how he stated it). I asked if there was an estimate for when they'd sort this "quality control issue" and begin to fulfill backorders, and I was told 4 to 6 weeks (end of November, beginning of December).
At the time I assumed this only applied to the HP SMB stock, but from what I'm reading here it seems they must've pulled the inventory from all resellers.

I wonder, if in 20 or so years, if buggy, sticky key 15C LEs will fetch for more than the 2nd or repeated run with all the fixes. :-)
"1st ed. 15C LE!!! With hard to press CHS, ENTER, and +!!! And buggy PSE and self-check firmware!!! HP recalled and fixed most of them, but not this one!!! Serious collectors only!!!"

It does work.
"ON" in conjunction with all of "/", "x", "-", "+", and "." are
decoded by the 15c firmware upon a power-on transition. Any
difference relative to a legacy 15c is likely just an oversight
in the emulation scheme.

I don't think either the official HP eStores or any of the resellers have their own stock. I bought mine from Buy.com, CostCentral (Erie Computer) and HP Home and Home Office. However, all of mine shipped directly from "Distribution Center" in either Memphis, TN or Olive Branch, MS. Those are the true warehouses with physical stock that have apparently been returned to the manufacturer in China. About the only place you will find any at the present time are from a few individuals selling them on TAS at inflated prices.

20 years after the 32SII, no one asks for an early model with the fraction bug. Prove me wrong by swapping your perfect Singapore sample with my buggy sample (also Singapore), anyone ;-).

My 15c LE with 12c firmware should really pull in the big bucks then!!

My 32SII was made in Indonesia in 1991. What is the fraction bug ?

I doubt this would happen. It would be too trivial to simply flash a 15C LE with 12C firmware and claim it came that way. There might be someone crazy enough to pay for a buggy early model 15C LE, although faking those might not be that hard either (print a plausible serial number sticker and flash an old firmware revision).

From HPDATAbase :
"1) The "Factors of Denominator" mode sometimes produces denominators
which are not factors. In these cases, the 32SII seems to display
the "Most Precise Mode" fraction, so this is a minor bug. Example:
SF 8
CF 9
8 /c
3
1/x
You see 0 1/3, but 3 isn't a factor of 8.
2) The "Fixed Denominator" mode (SF 8, SF 9) sometimes produces
denominators other than the specified one, along with incorrect
numerators. The amount of the error can be about +/- 1. HP is now
sending a manual addendum recommending that Flag 9 not be used at
all. Example:
SF8
SF 9
1
ENTER
ENTER
ENTER
8 /c
32
1/x (which is 0.03125)
You see v 0 7/8 (which is 0.875) but should see ^ 0 0/8. (Recall that
^ and v are the up- and down-arrows.)
Now press + repeatedly. You'll see:
v 1 7/8
v 2 1/2
v 4
v 4 3/4
v 5 3/5
v 6 1/2
v 7 3/7
etc... all of which are WAY off, and very few of which have a "fixed"
denominator of 8.
3) The "Most Precise" mode (CF 8, CF 9) and the "Factors of
Denominator" mode (SF 8, CF 9) sometimes violate the commutativity of
addition, and produce incorrect results. This only occurs when the x
value is close to 1/8 of the /c value, and the last two digits of the
LASTx register's exponent are nonzero. The worst error this can
produce is approximately +/- 0.125, which makes this a substantial
bug. Example:
CF 8
CF 9
8 /c
32
1/x
See v 1/8, but it should be ^ 0 0/8. Pressing:
0
+
gives ^ 0, but:
32
1/x
0
x<>y
+
gives v 0 1/8 . Addition should be commutative. The LASTx value is
causing the problems.
In late March, I called HP's Technical Support department about
problems with the fraction system (actually, at that time, I only knew
about bug 1). The HP employee stated that the 32SII can give
incorrect answers when using fractions (although she would not go into
any details about what problems were known), and that HP would likely
be instituting some type of exchange program this summer. She
suggested I call back after April 1 for details. I did call back,
left a message, and haven't heard back from them yet. "

I doubt HP is selling them at a loss, so if the demand remains high (which it has), they will likely be making/selling more. Doubt they would be crying over having to sell 100,000 "Limited Edition" calculators in order to satisfy consumer demand, right? I'm still waiting to order mine ...
