Someone here mentioned that the 15CLE manual is not spiral bound and that HP should have made it that way. I went to the Fed Ex copy place (formerly Kinko's). They cut the glued binding off and spiral bound my manual for about six and a half bucks.

Did you take another previously spiral "HP" bound manual to them so they could match it?

It's a bit of a mystery to me, why HP not just shipped a scanned version of the original manual (I guess only scanning would work, because at that time there was no digital-version of the manual). This way a lot of typos in the new manual would have been ruled out. They could just have added a leaflet with additional information (e.g. broken self-test, regulatory terms, etc).

If they shipped a scan people would complain about the image quality or something. Because they shipped it the way they did, people are complaining about typos. It would seem that for a lot of these issues, HP just can't win.

Quote: Why spoil all the fun of googling it yourself? ;) Seriously, I posted from my iPhone 3G and found it quicker to write down the search terms than to copy the URL, that's all!

The Advanced Functions Handbook is also included in the emulator. See Help > Advanced Functions Handbook. It is the same scan as the one on hp15c.org and the one on the HP Museum DVD. Edited: 29 Sept 2011, 3:36 p.m.

Quote:Yes. apparently printing any color at all is substantially more expensive than plain black & white. The original Owners Handbook had blue on every page (in the header and footer). I suppose a nice compromise might have been to change the headers and footers to black and then printed just the pages with images in color. Dave

I think I should have been more clear. I hope they release a new Advanced Functions Handbook that is searchable and not a scan. I had seen the scanned version before, but there are times when it's nice to be able to search. HP would need to redo the whole thing for this to be possible though, so I am not sure it will happen.

More than lack of color is the paper quality of the manual. The paper in 15C LE manaul is just a step above newsprint. The orignal 15C manual had very nice quality paper.

Both manuals are, as far as I know, a community effort conducted together with HP. Give them the time they need and you will get your Advanced Functions Manual. Then let it print and bind in a print shop for small money and you are lucky. |
