WP-34S
#1

Hardly a "new topic" these days, but a nice topic for experimenting and posting on a Sunday afternoon.

I just downloaded 1.18, flashed my 30B with SAM-BA 2.6 (USB, Win7), and printed the so-far latest keyboard layout. Then I covered it with a transparent self-adhesive film and...

WOW!! While previous versions were nice to try, the current one *AND* the workable layout created a more full experience, including my first, very simple, WP-34S programs; just trying to get familiar with it.

A couple of suggestions and ballots for the last polls, FWIW:

+/- preferred against CHS; but CHS acceptable after all

EEX preferred against E; but E acceptable after all

The "usual division sign" preferred against slash

All prefix keys together against edge-based "h"

OFF in green (h-prefixed) against blue (g-prefixed)

Sorry for these late replies, I used my iPod to read the MoHPC Forum for the last days and it's difficult to post replies from it (possible cookie issue).

Before my recurring admiration and congratulations for the design and implementation team, just a mention of a possible bug (I don't remember this one mentioned before, excuse me if it's old news, or if it is just "the intended behavior").

Press CLX, EEX, CHS, ENTER. Answer is "Domain Error".

And... I'm no expert about SVN, etc.; and just read that a 2.0 full release is coming, so this may not be important at all; but a short document about how to find the latest version and the latest layout may help us to avoid losing some time navigating the last versions committed, looking for the last layout and the last calc.bin (they are not necessarily together).

Now, again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

And fixed.

Buenas dias y muchas grazias, Andrés!

With respect to your "suggestions and ballots", please find 60% of them implemented in the current version already 8-)

About h-shifted OFF, please read my response in another thread.

Well, and the "usual division signs" vary a bit on this planet. Personally, I think the "colon bar" being graphically suboptimal since it looks similar to +. I know lots of people taught using a plain colon for division which is very well established for many decades, but presumably wasn't invented on the right side of the Atlantic :-? And the slash may be an alternative. Both : and / differentiate very well from the other symbols.

But it's in fact used in probably 95% (if not more) of all calculators!

And if making this "colon bar" to a more computer-like "/", then I wonder why not do the same with the multiplication, i.e. making "x" to a "*" ('since it looks similar to the letter x')

In the glorious land of OZ, which is really the only place that matters in the universe -- the yellow brick road and all -- betting odds are represented using a colon and division using an obelus.

So, we should represent division using an obelus with huge dots and a thin line. Making no-one happy but that's beside the point of compromise.
