For the calculator nuts: Free42
#1

Nothing new for you guys... just wanted to inform you that in my enthusiasm for the Free41, I had to blog about it, tweet it and send it to my friends on Facebook - reaching a couple of thousand people.

Thanks Thomas - it's an excellent product.

Hi Gier

You are right the Free42 is great. And so are your blog and website. I really like the layout of the website.

hehe - the layout :)

Yeah, I decided the boxes was history and I would from now on simply draw the web page. This way I can design a new web page on a paper napkin or toilet paper even.

I have to agree - my computer's Dell keyboard has a dedicated calculator key which I set up to invoke Free42 whenever it is pressed rather than the default Microsoft one. Really handy!

#5

Fully agreed.. Free42 is one of the few programs that I have on my taskbar.

So have I. Thanks, Thomas!

Yes. HP should obtain a licence to use Thomas' excellent software in a slightly modified 30b ;-).

Thank you, Thomas!

I have had it on my iPhone for a while. Very Nice :)

Yes, it is a nice program. I have not played with a real hp 42s but with this software I have an idea of what a wonderful calculator it was.

Jim, did you use the File -> Preferences -> Map "Calculator" key to Free42 feature, or did you use some other means to re-map that key? I'm asking because I've always wondered whether anyone actually uses that feature... I'd use it myself, but I can't, because these retro keyboards I use don't have any keys to spare. :-)

You're welcome!

I wish I had more time to work on it -- I hate that the Mac and iPhone versions are still not complete, and then there's Android...

Back in 2005 I thought it was pretty much done, but something new always comes up. :-)

Yes, I do use the key map feature; I use the rows Q-Y, A-H, and Z-N for the upper section. It is obviously only active when the program is active, but this seems to work great for me. I did this a couple of years ago (it seems) but it took a few months to get used to, but now I rarely miss a key. (A&S have the same function as the little finger on the number pad of my keyboard.) The only time I use the mouse interface is to access any of the menu options in the lower half of the keyboard.

I do use the iPhone one as well and find it quite nice, actually.
