15C Spotted on National Geographic Program
#1

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this yet, but since they haven't, I will.

On the National Geographic Channel program called "Known Universe" shown on April 15, they were explaining how the Kepler mission will allow the number of earth-sized plants in the Milky Way Galaxy to be determined. An amiable astronomer or other type of scientist (whose name I did not note) explained that the total number of such planets in the galaxy will be determined by considering the Kepler results to be a sample of the entire galaxy. He then compared this process to figuring out the number of blades of grass on the soccer field on which he was standing by counting the blades in a small square. He laid on the ground and counted the blades in a 2" x 2" square, then proceeded to use an HP-15C to calculate the total number on the field based on his sample area count. The calculator was shown only fleetingly for two short intervals, the badge was missing, and his hand blocked much of the keyboard, but I am pretty sure that that I saw "RESULT" above the EEX key.

I hope this scientist does not lose his 15C, or we might never know how many other earths are out there. Unless HP did something "out of this world" (get it?!) like re-release the 15C!
