It seems odd TI even had a problem with this considering what HP is providing with the HP 20b (I think that's the one.)

If it applies to cars, one could never tune them...

And the Electronic Frontier Foundation has bought into the debate. There's an informative article at http://www.eff.org/press/archives/2009/10/13.

This is typical TI. I used to work for them, and they are a litigious bunch. They became like that in the late 80s when they sued several Japanese DRAM makers over patents. Ever since they'll sue at the drop of a hat; they're known in the semi biz as a quite sue-happy outfit.

Case in point: several of my co-workers and I left en masse (nine of us to be exact) to go work for a company they never considered a competitor. In any TI internal discussions/presentations, TI never ever even mentioned the company we left for as a competitor. Once we left, they sued us and our new employer (suddenly they were competitors, but none of us had employment nor non-compete contracts nor took any TI IP/property of any kind with us and could never prove it). The case was complete harassment and the court ruled as such. It didn't matter as TI has deep pockets and they caused us untold grief for a year.

TI acting like this is par for the course. Yhey love to bully anyone they think they can with lawsuits.
