Other brands of calculators in space
#1

Is anyone aware of other brands of calculators going up in space? Is there any info on what russian and chinese astronauts brought with them up there?

The microwave oven used in the ISS is a standard Panasonic (Matsushita) model ;-))

I've seen a Russian calc on ebay that was claimed to have been in space. I've no idea of the make, nor do I know any Russian makes and I didn't pay much attention because I didn't have much faith in the truth of the auction - too easy to fake something like that and how would you prove it?

I think it would be a fairly safe bet that the Russians never used HP up until they started sharing Mir and then became part of the ISS establishment when HPs would have been on-board. I am only guessing on the last two, simply because those would be the only times the Russians had other country's astronauts on board who might bring along an HP.

"The MK-52 was used as a backup to the onboard computers of the Soyuz spacecraft on the Soyuz TM-7 mission to the Mir space station."

Once again I bow to the collective wisdom of the internet.
