uWatch third batch now available
#1

Many people have asked to be kept informed about this, so, after a long delay due to component supply problems, the third uWatch batch is now available:

Hi Dave --

I have been hesitating on getting this watch for some time, mainly because I'm kind of hard on these type of things and my goal with this would be to make it a daily accessory for me, but one that would last. On my wrist, it would last a week. ;-)

Anyhow, I spotted the belt clip attachment today. (!!) That might be exactly what I need! However, I don't see a link on your page for that attachment. Where do I get something like that? Is it available online? How sturdy is it?

You can contact me offline if you want, but I posted here because I thought others might want to know more about the belt clip version.

Thanks,
Bruce

Thanks Dave. Just ordered one up. An early Christmas (or solstice) present to myself. :)

The case is a Serpac C4, and it is available in the standard version as supplied with the uWatch, a belt clip version, and a key holder version. All in various colours and translucent types.

However I only carry the black standard one in stock, not many people have asked about the belt clip version.

You can get the belt clip attachment at
Digikey

You will however need to drill a small 2mm hold through the mounting stud and the clip.

How sturdy is it?

Hmm, how sturdy is your 5 minute epoxy? :->

The most vulnerable part would probably be the LCD screen, it doesn't have a protective sheet over it. You can even fill the underside of the LCD screen with potting resin material if you wanted to make it more robust overall.

The rear case with belt clip is held in place with just the one screw.

Hi Chuck
I assume you are the "Charles" who ordered one, if so then it's already on it's way.

I shipped 8 this morning!

And as per the previous batches, only about half the people have wanted watch bands. So I'd be interested to know if people are actually using the uWatch as a watch!?

Thanks Dave. And yes, that was I. On the usage...I have a small leather pencil pouch that holds my triangles, rulers, protractor, rotring pens and pencils, compass (1890) Pickett N600 sliderule, and other odds and ends. Not bad for a 7 inch pencil pouch. I figure the uwatch will fit nicely in there as well. It would also be nice to learn how to program it, or even steampunk it. Rest assured, whatever happens, it will get a lot of use and not tossed into a box to be forgotten.

I am one who is using the uWatch as a watch.
Only problem has been snagging a corner of the keyboard plate (on cuff, jacket etc). The plate doesn't break, it just ends up on the floor. Despite gluing it quite securely. I am going to find some material to bend and glue around the perimeter of the watch.
Have not had time to update the firmware - work been crazy - but delighted to see the activity there.

What kind of glue did you use to attach the plate?

Super glues (cyanoacrylates) are brittle. A decent bang ruins the bond.

I used a two part expoy resin, very carefully applied which should survive the odd bump.

I've just ordered my uWatch and and can't wait for it to arrive !

Where can you get the clip to attach to the rear of the calc' if not
wearing it as a watch ?

Best Regards
