Missed you at HHC this year!

Hugh Steers gave me a demo of this software on his cell phone (not an iPhone) at Friday's pre-HHC dinner gathering. I was certainly impressed with the capabilities and speed, but a powerful microprocessor, large color backlit LCD and high-energy battery makes it all possible.

One still must remember the power consumption of the display and the software itself. It would be a shame to discharge the battery experimenting with advanced math problems, then not be able to make/take phone calls due to lack of a charged battery. A stylus and good near-distance eyesight must be used to make entries.

I tried this software on a PocketPC. Karl Schneider's remarks on stylus usage and eyesight are right to the point. I found it to be not very intuitive and to have a rather awkward user interface.

I found myself much more at ease with Math Tablet. It's highly customizable, works well with XCAS and even has RPN entry available. But only for PPC and smartphone...

It is not a replacement for a laptop or a calculator, but nice to have in a pinch.

Every iPhone battery life article I have read ends the same, "once you get over playing with it and testing every new app, the battery life improves". E.g. I went from using i41CXp everyday (because I could) to using it just when I need it (just like my 41CX).

(like DOS emulation, RPN like 41 is CP/M era)

Full native ARM speed is needed for 3D color plot animation
Full RAM is also nice to have
RPL/2 gives UserRPL support and brings HP to the modern world
(Mac, Windows)
xCas from Parisse can be expanded

HP please, give us finally the tools we need
stop playing with mere calculators (which are also needed) and
bring it on with a true modern Pocket Computing Device

It looks interesting.

The Palm, Windows, and Mac downloads consist of a base program and a few specialized add-ons. I would be interested to see what is included in the iPhone app. $30 for an iPhone app is pretty expensive, too.

I have downloaded the Palm trial and am trying to warm up to it. The interface is not intuitive.
