Maybe the HP15c badge should have been reversed..

That is to say, after trying extensively to repaint, guild and otherwise modify the Voyager badges I came upon the realization that the badge has a design flaw.

Of course anyone that owns a Voyager with the plastic badges knows this. After using one HP 15C at work with the badge with the chrome plating removed, I realized that this to was not quite correct in appearance, although the neatest looking of all my attempts.

I came across the idea of working with the fault. After removing the badges from these two HP 15C's I then resurfaced the scratched bezels. Both calculators were cleaned with soapy water on the external and internal sides of the keyboard, keeping the IC's out of the water. I then rinsed with clean water and then with 99% Isopropyl alcohol, again keeping the IC's and LCD away from the liquid solutions. An application of a spray orange oil based adhesive remover' on the external and internal portion of the keyboard has resulted in two perfect HP 'feeling' key snaps without the bounce or sticky click that plagued these two units.

I tried the 'orange oil adhesive remover' on a totally disfunctional calculator last year with excellent results and there have been no adverse effects so I am declaring the spray to safe and effective.

Here are two pictures of the 'rebranded' badges. You will notice the engraved portion: HP 15C have been filled in with the chrome paint. I think this is an excellent result and that HP should have done this in the first place. The advantage is obvious, the chrome paint is recessed and will not wear out.

Hope you like the change.

If you want a full description of the methods used let me know as the keyboard bouncing keys and sticky keys have been fixed in this manner. The problem is to find cleaners and techniques which do not destroy the silk screening or the internal membranes yet do clean the calculator of any contaminants under the keys and inside the calculator.

Cheers, Geoff
