41CX + Wand and IR module
#1

I just acquired a wand for my halfnut 41CX last week. Wow! No more HP-IL <-> HP-IL/RS232 <-> RS232/USB <-> PC nonsense, or powering up my vintage PC w/ HP-IL ISA adapter so that I can use HP-IL to get code in my 41CXes. I just use HP41UC to create a bar code, print and wand it in.

Are there any interesting wand-based applications floating around out there?

Has any used the 41CX IR module to upload or dump programs and data to a PC? If so, how?

Thanks.

Dear Egan,
I'm working on a project : IRIO (InfraRed In Out) Module for HP-41C/CV/CX calculators.
One of the bases is the module part of HP82143A Thermal Printer.
Another one is the Extended I/O and IR emitter.
I tested the famous HP82242A IR Module with several sensors.
I had various results but nothing directly readable.
In the past Hook µP created an IR to RS232c interface that can be used with HP-28C, HP-42S and the previous module.
To be continued.

Please keep me informed.

Hook µP is not a Googlable term. Do you have a part number or plain text description?

Thanks.

there are a few interesting links with regards to this on the forum as well
IR Thread 1
Forum Thread 2
Thread 3
Forum Thread 4
etc... (google "IR Module site:www.hpmuseum.org")

and here is a link to a catalog which has a IT to RS232 module:
Xantech Catalog

Just stirring the fever... :-)

Hook-uP was produced by Rush systems and sold by EduCalc. Katie Wasserman has a EduCalc catalog from 1988 on her site (1988 EduCalc catalog ) where you can read about it on page 49.

There is another thread here (Hook-uP Thread) which talks about the Hook-uP device and further down the decoded IR stream from the HP28c. Decoded HP28 IR

... As is blatantly obvious I personally have nothing to contribute here yet find this a fascinating subject, so my apologies for interfering/posting...

Please continue. I have looked into this on/off for a year. Searching and collecting information on this topic from comp.sys.hp48 and Google. I somehow missed "Hook up".

AFAIK, devices referred to in 8 year old posts just do not exist on the open market.

What I want is a redeye to USB device. I am casually researching the possibility of building such a thing.

something like this:USB to IrD

That would be cool!!

also, as you so kindly encouraged, here is a detailed doc that details the IR specs from the IR Printer:HP82240 IR Technical Specs

And, as I am in dreamland already - if someone can figure this one out, maybe we can build an interface from the HP42S to the outside world, maybe even to all the new gadgets we have for the HP41 and finally make the HP42S that dream-machine it would have been had it kept the I/O capabilities of the HP41.

Ah, I see the phone is ringing. Earth to Peter, Earth to Peter...

Cheers

Peter
