HP41 card reader repair / opening - Peter - 09-23-2005 Hello fellow HP friends How do I open the HP 82104A magnetic card reader? I just aquired one that shows the first signs of the "gummy wheel problem", and would like to fix this. Btw, when I do this, I will take photos, and publish a visual repair guide, if sufficient interest is here.
Best regards Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - Randy - 09-23-2005 Visual repair guide already done. Start here: http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=57 and finish here: http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/articles.cgi?read=239

Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - Howard Owen - 09-23-2005 There are actually two guides in the article archive. But this is such a tricky operation, I don't think a third photo essay would be taken amiss by anyone! 8)
Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - Peter Geiser - 09-24-2005 Great, thank you! Stupid me didn't find the articles. So now I have something to do over the weekend ;-) I'll tell you how it went.

Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - Peter Geiser - 09-25-2005 This afternoon, I repaired the card reader. It works fine now.
As promised, I created a small guide with a few images to document it:
Best regards, Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - David Smith - 09-25-2005 Peter, you should add a warning note to your page... Before taking apart the internal mechanism, make a note of the locations of the wires to the read head and motor. They can pop out of the connector pins when you move the motor assembly.
Re: HP41 card reader repair / opening - Peter Geiser - 09-25-2005 Good idea! Thanks for the hint, I have added a short notice for this.
