Larry:

Actually this is a Calculator forum but...

Assuming that the computer will boot insert the first recovery disk and follow the instructions. Recovery disks are almost always autobooting.

Be aware that a recovery disk will totally wipe the hard drive--ALL YOUR DATA, PASSWORDS, AND SETTINGS WILL BE GONE, GONE GONE!

Finally, if you or someone has changed the CMOS setting involving which disk boots first you must change the setting to CD as the first boot device. You will need the instructions that came with your PC for the exact procedure.
If you do not have the instructions go to the HP site: www.hp.com and select the support option. From there you can select your system and should be able to download the manual, etc.

AGAIN REMEMBER RUNNING RECOVERY WILL DESTROY YOUR DATA SO IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION SAVE YOUR DATA FIRST. AT THE VERY LEAST MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ALL YOUR USER NAMES, PASSWORDS, PHONE ACCESS NUMBERS(IF APPLICABLE)

GOOD LUCK!
