Ok, just got it from the post office. It is supposed to come pre-loaded with the HePAX rom image.

To plug it in and use it for HePAX and saving programs to the RAM, what are the exact steps I have to do? I'm trying to wade through the Clonix manual, but I am confused. :-)

I know something must be done, since if I plug it into my 41CX now, the 41CX turns off and locks when I turn it on.

So, what do I need to do to use my new baby? I'll worry about loading ROMs later. :-)

Hi Gene,

The 41CX should be OFF before you plug in any module, including the NoVRAM. Also, the HEPAX is a real monster (endearingly speaking) so it's important you become familiar with its functions and operations before trying to do too much with it. The manual(s) are available for download from TOS (the other site).

The problem of the machine locking up is way beyond my limited abilities but I'd bet that Diego can help.

as Bill states, always turn off the calc *before* plugging/unplugging modules.

Now you could try a calc reset (ENTER+ON).

If you got it working, that is the calc turns on again,

*and* you downloaded the manual from TOS,

you'll see some HEPAX functions like HSAVEP, HGETP, and alike.

Yes, to store user code programs in HEPAX RAM there are easy-to-use

functions available, the saved program(s) will appear in CAT 2,

you can run it from there, as usual. HEPAX cares for the details.

As always, and especially for such a complex piece of hardware and software, RTFM FIRST;-)

Well, I wasn't clear in the first message. I put the module in while the 41CX was off, turned the 41CX on, and then it would turn off/lock up, etc.

I imagine it hasnt' been properly "initialized" or something. :-)

GENE: Yep, had been doing that. Wasn't clear before. I've had a 41C since 1980, so I knew to do that.

GENE: Did that, and I think it may require leaving the batteries OUT overnight. Still turns off quickly. Might be that the batteries got drained (they are rechargeables) right when the module was put in...who knows...static discharge is a pain.

GENE: My beef wasn't with the HePAX manual which I have read from the other site, but with the instructions on what to do with a just-out-of-the-envelope NoVRAM module. Is it different than the Clonix module? Do you follow the steps in the Clonix manual? If not, what steps are different? Again, I just figured that there must be differences in the INITIAL operating/setup instructions for the NoVRAM module compared to a vanilla Clonix.

And, there is no "manual" as yet specifically for the NoVRAM module - only the Clonix. Makes it tough to read. :-)

maybe the batts are the key. Since the NoVRAM (and also the Clonix)

draw some more power than a passive module, there is a chance

your batteries went flat in a short time.

How does it work with fully charged batteries?

Sorry for the confusion all. My rechargeable battery pack was NOT showing "BAT" but went that way as soon as the HePAX was plugged in.

Went to alkalines I had and it works fine.

And, yes, I'm reading the HePAX manual. :-)
