good old big enter keys - Eric - 02-10-2003

Missed the posts for a few weeks, caught one about a possible 'small' rpn coming? I have a 32sii and daily access to a nice 42s and I concur: Large enter button up top with the E! Like many of you, I quickly become nostalgic when the old HP's come to mind. When I was in elementary school I was given a 42s by my father (he bought 2, one he still uses today) and being a little nose digger, I broke it eventually. What do you guys think will be the stuff our kids hold onto? Wonder if those HP pocketPC's will run some of our HP calc emus....well back to studying

Dude!

You betcha! Nice to hear another 'correct' opinion ;)
Putting an [ENTER] key in place of a traditional [=] key, in its tradtional location, just won't cut it. I fear this might be the case in upcoming new HP calcs - the OEM won't change the keyboard cutout dies or wanna make a special larger key.

IIRC, I believe APF or Omron had a sci. calc (w/flourescent display) in the mid-70s that was 3-level RPN - and the [ENTER] key was not a 'special' key but just where the [=] used to be.

Personally, I'd like to see a 42S-type calc in a modified narrower body so its key layout is like that of the 41C. This would fit in shirt pocket NICELY. Alternately, I do enjoy the 11C/15C 'landscape' layout and would love to see a 42S-functionality calc in that format. [Plus, the 11C/12C/15C/16C calcs had GREAT keyboards and strong casings. Look how well many are holding up after 20 years!]
