How to add image to HP Forum Posting - Harold A Climer - 11-20-2013

I was answering a question from someone on the Forum and wanted to add a screenshot of my Prime to help answer the question ,but could only find a thing with a URL input box.
The image I had was on my own computer, and not on a Web page. Do I have to get an image using this way only?
I can always download the image to the server where my own University/Department/Personal Web Page is located, but having only Dial-up internet service from home this would take forever.

Yes, the image file has to be located "somewhere on the internet" so that the hpmuseum forum software can access it. Of course you can upload the picture from your computer to your personal university webspace. You say this upload would "take forever" with your dial-up connection. But this also means that the download would "take forever" as well for every user with a similar internet connection - fast multi-mbit-connections are not available everywhere.

So the problem is not your slow connection - other users may use something similar and experience the same problems as you during your upload. The problem is your file size. How large is the file you want to share? Sounds like several Megabytes. A JPG-screenshot of a Full-HD-Display (around 2 million pixels) should not require more than 500 KB. I just saved a 1,7-Megapixel screenshot as a PNG file (works better than JPG here) and it required less than 200 KB. Which in both cases is no problem at all even with a good old 56K-modem.

BTW, you can also have some webspace here at hpmuseum.org. There is a link on the accounts/login-page that leads to a request form.

Dieter

There is no way for anyone to see the image on your computer until you've placed it somewhere accessible by others via the internet. If dial-up is the only means for internet access for you, then it would be a cumbersome process whether you upload to the university, or any other website. Even if the forum had a means to upload images (and to clarify, it does not), your screenshot would only get onto the forum after you have uploaded the picture through your dial-up connection. Or perhaps I am not understanding your question... (?)
