HP-41 CATALOG - Siegfried (Austria) - 05-22-2013

When working through the manual of my newly acquired HP-41 I found it a bit strange that one can list all available functions via CATALOG but seemingly cannot select them (e.g. by pressing ENTER) from within the CATALOG (which would seem straightforward and less tedious than ALPHA "function name" etc. to me).

Did I miss something or, if not, does anyone - maybe with HP roots - have an idea why it was designed to "show only".

The native HP 41 - to my knowledge either flavor, C, CV or CX - does not support function selection during CATALOG.

Some guys considered this as a shortcoming too and developed a workaround. The CCD module, for example, provides the HP41 with some extensions of the operating system. One of them gives you the ability to select and execute a function while presented in CATALOG.

This appears to work only with XROM-functions of catalog 2, not with built-in functions of catalog 3.

Cheers

That´s correct - and neither does it work for CAT´1 programs in RAM. The rationale I guess was the user would already be familiar with those, so not so much gain.

Incidentally it does work in the FCAT function listing the sub-functions within an auxiliary FAT... see the PowerCL and the SandMath manuals.
