The last WP34s cables - Gene Wright - 01-11-2013

I have about 30 left. Had problems getting these sent out in December, but should be able to do so now.

Customs forms are now a royal pain at the US post office as they have to type in everything on the form by hand into their systems before they can send it. This means it takes a good deal more time. :-(

Pricing is now $8 for a US address and $12 for outside the USA. Paypal is the preferred method.

email me at genewright then 143 and hotmail

The only period in the email is after hotmail and the @ is after the 143. Com is how it ends of course.

Hi Gene,

I'm astonished there are still so many left. How many did you have in the beginning?

Re: The last WP34s cables - Maximilian Hohmann - 01-12-2013

Hello!

After endless years of hesitation (will I ever have the time to flash my own WP34s and more importantly: Will I ever find a reason for using it...) I placed an order for one of your cables now.

But if you are really short of cables and someone else has better uses for it than I do, I will step back anytime.

Regarding your eMail address: I think there is no real need to conceal it. I wasn't so sure how to spell it (with or without the usual "." between first and last name?) and used google for confirmation - there are already 92 results containing that address!

Regards
Max

Max, I can flash your device. After that you can send it to Harald Pott and let him add a USB interface.

Thanks, me too - email sent.

Re: The last WP34s cables - Randy - 01-12-2013

Gene, do the customs form online, print it out and attach to the package. When it gets to the PO, they scan the barcode and it's done.

The only down side is the printing step. It takes some time as the form is bitmaped in a pdf document. Kinda clunky but it beats waiting for the friendly clerks to push keys for you. ;-)

Hello,

Thank you, I shall purchase one of those 30 (email sent).

All cables to USA addresses ordered before now have shipped - Gene Wright - 01-16-2013

FYI to all USA cable inquirers.

Those were shipped yesterday (Tuesday).

International cables will ship tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday.

Still have some left.

Please count me in for some (2 or 3 if possible). I was unable to reach you by mail for whatever reasons. I will not keep them, of course. They are for some people here in Europe.

Re: All cables to USA addresses ordered before now have shipped - Stephan - 01-16-2013

Hi Gene,

if there are still are any cables left, I would like to get one as well.

I sent you an email a couple of days ago, too.

Thanks, Stephan

While we are at it: USB conversion boards for the cable - Harald - 01-17-2013

I still have some of the USB conversion boards for these cables left. This might be interesting for those who don't have a serial port on their computer and want to convert there cable to USB.

Re: While we are at it: USB conversion boards for the cable - Harald - 01-18-2013

I have run out of the conversion boards now and won't be making any new ones either, as Gene is running out of cable to convert as well.

Alternatively I have a smaller board for a DIY cable. You will have to make your own connector for that as described by Katie.

Re: While we are at it: USB conversion boards for the cable - Walter B - 01-18-2013

Nice work again - but I still like your built-in USB boards better. You can use standard cables then, a big advantage IMHO.

Me too, but there are a few people who don't want to modify the calculator.

On the other hand, if they are not prepared to modify the calculator, maybe they don't want to get into making a connector either. At least that is what the sales figures suggest. Or maybe it is simply lack of marketing.

Have you got any numbers on how many WP34s' are out there? I shiped about 80 PCBs so far. I never expected to make so many of these. I suspect there are probably a lot more WP34s that haven't been converted. Eric should have a good idea about it, as almost every one will have been fitted with an overlay.

Re: While we are at it: USB conversion boards for the cable - Walter B - 01-18-2013

From looking at the download statistics, I'd guess there are some 250 active WP 34S users. But that's only guesswork ...

Re: While we are at it: USB conversion boards for the cable - Eric Rechlin - 01-18-2013

I've sold close to 150 pre-built 34S calculators, and close to 1000 overlays, but the vast majority of people who purchased overlays bought multiple, so I'd divide that number by at least 2.

Eric

Wow, that is quite a lot of overlays.

Did you have a go at installing a USB PCB yet?

Hi Gene,
I just sent you an email to check if you still have a serial cable to sell. I just acquired a WP34s, this is an awesome calculator that now sits proudly in front of my collection ! thanks in advance, Philippe

1/2 of the international cables and all USA cables have shipped - Gene Wright - 01-24-2013

Sorry for the delay on the international cable shipments. I have been trying to get the customs forms done at home and having browser -> printer problems.

All cables for people in the USA have shipped as of 1/23.

the international cables are going out in the order received and I am about 1/2 way done. Anything older than 7-8 days has shipped. Will try to get the others out shortly.

Update: ALL cables requested have been shipped <------- but I still have cables available - Gene Wright - 01-25-2013

Sorry for the delay. If you paid me for a cable, it has been shipped.

cables are still available. If you want to try building your own, you need to ask here.

Thanks!

Please let me repeat my question of post #2:

Re: Update: ALL cables requested have been shipped <------- but I still have cables available - Gene Wright - 01-25-2013

I don't know exactly, as I have received several sets over the last year and a half.

I have been keeping *most* of the addresses to which I have shipped cables, so I can probably come up with a close count.

I have about 40 cables left, I would suspect as of right now. Those really WILL be the last ones.

I'd appreciate that :-)

Now that's interesting as well: you started with "about 30", shipped a significant number, and end with "about 40". If this will be repeatable, I look forward to the next campaigns ...

Maybe Gene should concentrate on using RPN/RPL calcs, which give intermediate results:-)

OTOH that's marketing;-)

Re: Cable numbers - ad infinitum - Gene Wright - 01-25-2013

lol

Actually, I found a second group I had left. Two instead of one.

One group nearly gone, but one untouched.
