I need help, We reciently acquired a HP-48SX with a TDS Survey SX card.
I have been trying to initialize the Survey card but get the following error. "Port 2 Unconfigured"

I use the following proceedure to install the program

1. Reset the Hp-48SX
2. Insert the 128k Memory card into port 2
3. Insert the TDS survey SX card into port 1
4. turn on the hp-48Sx
5. Select the number 2 (shift-Left), Memory, Nxt, Nxt, f1 (Merge)
6. Select (Alpha) (Alpha) TDS48
the program installes and states Install memory card
7. I turn off the Hp-48SX and restart
8. Select (Alpha) (Alpha) TDS48
the program begins to load and start when I get the above error message.

I seem to remember that you had to swap cards at one point, but cannot get this to work, everytime I reverse the cards and install the program with the proceedure above, then swap the cards, the HP-48SX clears out the memory.

I know I am doing something wrong proceedure wise, can anybody help with this?

Try not MERGE'ing the memory. Instead, just plug the software card into slot 1, and a RAM card into slot 2.

To unmerge currently merged memory, use the FREE command

When I reset the hp-48SX and place the program card into port 1 and the memory card into part 2 and hit (alpha) (alpha) TDS48 it askes ststes "Insert Install Card"

When I Reset the Hp-48SX and place the program into port 2 and the memory card into port 1 then hit alpha) (alpha) TDS48 it states
"sto error"
"insufficient memory"
"Library 781: TDSL"

I get the error above no matter if the memory card is in or not, unless I merge the memory. I have tried to unmerge and swap cards also with no luck.

I have tested the memory card with a HP-48GX with TDS Survey Pro and it works, I even tried the Survey SX card which is version 4.0 in the HP-48GX and actually got it working, however when ever I tried to open a job It kept asking me to clear all memory on the memory card when I reset it, it will not create the job, when I try again it asks to clear all memory on the memory card. When I say no to this message it just does not create the job.

I would try putting the ROM card into slot 2, and the RAM card into slot 1 and MERGE'ing card slot 1 with main memory. Then run TDS48.

What do you mean by "Memory card" -- both ROM and RAM cards are memory cards. Do you mean the software (ROM) card? or the RAM card?

My understanding is that the HP48GX software works differently in that you do you have initially use card slot 2 for the ROM card and then do a swap to card slot 1.

I got confused reading this: you say "got it working" and then immediately describe how it is not working... ?

Are you getting a "Try to Recover Memory" prompt? Is that what you mean by clearing all memory? Or is it asking to initialize the RAM card?

I have tried this,
When I Merge memery to port 2 and run TDS48 the program installs then askes to "turn off and insert memory card into port 2" I turn the hp-48 off and then back on again type (Alpha) (Alpha) tds48 and the program begins to load (I see the copyright) up but then errors out with the message "Port 2 unconfigured"

Sorry about that, I was thinking a Program card and Memory card. but in this case I was talking about RAM Card.

Yes that is correct. I assumed that all of the TDS software did this.

Sorry, What I ment was I got the software to initalize and start up to the main menu howeve when I try to create a job I have the issue stated and counld not test any further. The use of the HP-48GX was used to verify that the Program Card (ROM) Card was working correctly.

No, when I attempt to Create a Job it gives me the normal job setup screen, I then give it a name and select "Create" it immediately goes to "Delete all data in port 2? (Y/N)"
If I say yes, it dropes me out of the program and does not create the new job. I then go back into the software TDS48 and try it again however it does the same thing.

It has been a while, and perhaps I am not remembering correctly, but I do not think the SX version of the TDS software requires any swapping. The only thing I can suggest is to do a complete reset:

1. Merge port 1; merge port 2; press [ON]+[A]+[F] and answer [NO].
2. Free port 1 and 2.
3. Try to reinstall with just the software card in slot 1 and RAM card in slot 2.

If it claims that there is not enough memory, try merging port 2. Then when it says to install a memory card, unmerge port 2.

If that does not work, then I do not have any other suggestions. Perhaps someone else may know more.. ?
