Well, my intention was to spend a maximum of 209, but I typed 290 instead. Lucky it didn't go all the way :)
There are currently cheaper ones on ebay USA at "buy it now" prices. But you are right, they are not masively cheaper.

It looks nice. AND it has two 32k RAM modules installed. You can easily sell each of those for 100+ Euros which brings the price for the calculator below one hundred Euros.

There are not too many audiophiles on this site. And any time I've risen my head on an audiophile subject, I've been hit by the "everything sounds the same" and "you cannot possibly hear any difference" standard answers.

Still, I love tube amps, electrostatic headphones, vinyl and SACD.

dark beer? Isn't that's a U.K. phenomenon (a.k.a. meal in a glass). IIRC German beer is pale stuff that goes well with sausages.

Thanks the turntable is actually inexpensive.

Two systems:

1) Tubed system is Jadis (reference)

2) Solid state system is Krell.

To give you an idea of priceology here : the JA800 power amps in the Jadis were $89,000 not cheap. The cabling in the reference system is about $18,000.

I once intended to bid 18 euro on some random thing, I think it was a USB cable for something.
I entered 18,00 in my bid tool, but apparently it only recognizes dots as decimal divider. So instead of bidding 18,00 (or of telling me I had entered an illegal character) the system bid 1800 euro for me.
I too was lucky that the auction ended at about 21... Imagine if there had been a "bidding war" on that cable! :)

Looks like a good buy: 2 memory modules and HP-IL seem to come with it. And no taxes. :-)

John, the "von" doesn't make a big difference any more.

Don't sell the memory modules, install the MATH.LEX file in one of them! You'll need HP-IL equipment for this but it's doable.

Well, not so off-topic. It's interesting to know a little about other contributors' interests. I mean: short messages like yours are welcome in my opinion; opening a full thread to discuss audio would certainly be not adequate.

And, BTW, the prices you mentioned are high enough to start a discussion about financial calcs, amortization methods or just plain scientific notation; all proper topics here! :-)

The beers were opened only on the next day. They were a gift from some in Belgium I sent an HP manual to. I hardly drink beer, but these were really tasty. I fear Anchor Steam Beer is not easily found here, judging by what I read (if you can read Spanish then you can read that also).
The funny thing in the picure is the fact that I was drinking Pepsi in a coke glass. I switched to Pepsi light when coke light virtually disappeared from the shelves here and was replaced by coke zero, which contains sodium cyclamite (at least here). Then it was the other way around: I drank coke in pepsi glasses.
