Please let us know, so we can listen in.

Thanks.

There's ZERO wifi available, so it would have to be via phone, and cell coverage out in this area is crummy.

It's almost like they're TRYING to block us from getting to the net. ;-)

And we have an NDA to obey too...

Re: Anyone 'tweeting' from HHC2011? - Marcus von Cube, Germany - 09-25-2011

At least it was a full day...

I'm just back but after having emptied a bottle of wine with my wife I'm not very good at reporting. We saw interesting stuff from the community (new non HP hardware is on the horizon), very serious programming efforts for existing platforms, and some enlightening reports about the new 15C (benchmarks and such) or the 41CL. I'm pretty sure the non HP efforts will soon be published by the respective persons. I'm posting my and Neil's presentations on SF.

Hi Marcus, pls share with us.

We just finished up and it was another great conference. The attendance was quite high (I think Gene said 67) and the talks were wonderful.

We heard from Dennis Harms, Product Manager (I think that was his title) of the HP 12C. He had some great stories. In the introductions, he said "if you press a math key on an HP calculator, that's probably some of my code you're running."

I think the highlight for me was the WP 34S. Marcus von Cube gave a great talk about it, Jake Schwartz talked about the 16C functionality in it, and Eric Rechlin explained his keyboard overlays, complete with a demonstration on installing them. I sat across from Eric and he spent most of the conference flashing 20b's and 30b's into 34S's. This is certainly an exciting machine.

Of course we heard lots of great stuff from HP also, including a Q&A session with the developers, marketing, product management etc. Information from HP is covered under the NDA that we must all sign, but trust me, it's very interesting and for me, the confidential information is reason enough to attend the conferences.

There were many other talks but I don't have time right now to go into them. Joe Horn won the Best Speaker prize.

Dave

You mean we can't tell them about the HP 51g?

Re: Anyone 'tweeting' from HHC2011? - Walter B - 09-26-2011

Now we who could not attend are all waiting for the proceedings to be published. Also individual files are appreciated :-)

I believe it was higher, in the mid-70, as we had at least a #74 ticket called during the door prizes drawing. Richard did mention something like 88 people signed-up and maybe 76 ended-up showing-up.

I forgot the model number, was 51 or 15? ;-)

NDA is NDA is NDA is...

The second day was far less exciting (and exhausting) as day one but it had its highlights, too. I very much enjoyed Richard Nelson talking about how the PPC ROM was put together by the community before the Internet and what huge effort was necessary to mail out the boxes to the PPC members. Richard should do a wright-up on this.

BTW, the folks at the conference are a nice crowd. I felt very comfortable with them.

I would not want to be one of you guys who knew something terrific about a new release, but had to keep it secret for ... a year, in the case of the 15c LE.

Re: Anyone 'tweeting' from HHC2011? - Eric Rechlin - 09-27-2011

I think 74 was the highest ticket, and there were another 4 or so HP people who came by but did not have to register, for a total of about 78.

Eric

74 was the highest ticket - Jeremy Smith, but he came after the HP people. I think we had 68 total non-HP attendees this year.

I believe that the total including HP folks was 69 or 70 back in 2007 when we were last in San Diego with the intro of the 34S, so this one beats that and easily is the largest attendance in a couple of decades. FYI, the 8/22/1981 conference in Corvallis when the 41 series was "fresh", attracted 180 people. This not only included a barbecue on the HP grounds, but a plant tour, where we got to see the manufacturing area as well as the R&D area. A few of us got early glimpses of the HP11C and 12C machines, to be officially announced only 3 weeks later. Ultimately, that manufacturing area built Voyager machines on an assembly line with robots controlled over HP-IL by HP71Bs. Is that cool, or what?

I actually meant 35S. I have "34S" on the brain!!!

Of course in Eric's case, if HP doesn't make the calculator he wants, he will "simply" make it himself, from scratch. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the presentations at HHC2011, but Eric's was astounding....

Feel free to continue this way - you're welcome :-)
Actually, "Imagine" was in 2008 IIRC.

So what you are saying is that the 71B created the Voyager line in it's own image? Fascinating. :-)

That is awesome. I would have loved to have seen that (or video's or pictures).

Maybe someone should talk to James Cameron - perhaps the HP-15C can make a cameo in Terminator 5!
