HP-10 repair, strange piece of plastic. - Kees van der Sanden - 07-28-2010

Currently I am repairing an HP-10 calculator.

I opened the case and cleaned all PCB's.

On the backside of the CPU PCB I found a piece of red colored plastic.

It seems that there is something broken/missing here.

What is the original shape of this piece of plastic and

what is its function?

Any help is welcome,

Kees van der Sanden

I'd have to look at one of mine to be sure, but I believe that is exactly how it is supposed to look. The plastic is to keep the moving print mechanism (ribbon cable) from scraping against the back of the circuit board.
