The buyer (brunoh3318) has received positive feedback from the seller.

The seller (riatla) has been on ebay for close to 10 years and has a feedback rating of 8411.

So I'd say it looks like he payed up.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would spend half a million dollars on a car, but some people do it anyway! If you can spare the money, and you really want the item, then why not? Imagine what could happen if Bill Gates and Larry Ellison got in a bidding war over something....

But this auction here really is a bit strange: The buyers eBay history has only 3 items, all of which are hp-97s. The first two, he bought for around 300$ each (still pretty expensive, I think), so why shoud he spend ten times as much on the third one? I could understand it, if Madonna would deliver it to his home herself and sign it in his presence, but otherwise?

Weeeell, one of my 97s comes from Italy (40 kms from home, actually) with proper literature.
I'll keep an eye on your auction and offer mine to the second bidder... ;)

Suppose the seller sold the calculator to the buyer for a reasonable quantity ($700-$800?), but I don´t think the seller paid $3250 for the HP97.

Mine is in Pennsylvania for a few weeks for surgery with Randy. I wish I could say I miss it terribly but my HP41s with their various adventures (card reader, IR module, etc) have been most diverting.

I would guess that for every 100 hp-97s with english documentations, there is one with italian, french, german, spanish,... handbooks, so every non-english hp calculator is a much more rare and precious item . We are lucky to live in the non-english speaking part of the world, this automatically adds a lot to the value of our collections :-)
BTW: A few weeks ago, I bought an hp-80 with spanish manual and backplate from a gentleman in the Netherlands, this combination alone adds anonther 100 Euros to the value of the calculator.

Honestly, I don't know, because I keep this calculator (together with some other larger ones) at my parents home in Italy. So I will have to wait for the next visit there (probably easter), before I can check.

Is there an Italian version of the HP-12C manual? I haven't been able to find a pdf file, but I'd like to know it the manual has been translated to Italian. By the way, one of these days I found in a used-book store a nice spiral-bound 12C manual in Spanish (1987, printed in Germany). I really don't need it, but as the price was only R$ 10 ($4.70) I decided to take it home.

as strange as it may sound I don't think I own one, but I have italian versions of manuals for 41*, 42S, 32S, 17BII, 97, 22S and others I don't remember now...

Being the 12C the best selling HP calculator ever I think it would be strange not to have translated the manual in every language known to man!

I will ask a friend o'mine when I'll see him.
