Palmer, for B/A on a 49G (and 48G), I get the exact solution.
for the others I get the values you show. What have I done wrong?

Cheers, Werner

Werner:

Based on what I saw with the INV A * B and B/A fuctions on my HP-28S I am a little surprised at the exact solution with B/A on the HP-49G; however, I would be the last one to suggest that you are doing anything wrong since I understand very little of how the HP-49G works. I tend to stumble around a bit with the features such as Approximate, use of flags, etc.

I had used the HP-49G primarily to obtain exact answers to some of Valentin's and Rodger's problems. I had discovered some idiosyncrasies with RREF on my TI-83Plus and TI-85. By accident I found the RREF function on the HP49 and when I saw how good the answer was for Valentin's problem I went back and did the INV A * B and B/A solutions. If anyone did something wrong it was probably me.

Palmer, would you type VERSION and see what version of the HP49 firmware your emulator is using? I think some of the earlier HP49 firmware has problems with the system we've been discussing in this thread. My HP49 has firmware 1.05, which is REALLY old and full of bugs. I haven't been able to find the serial cable, so I can't update it. I mentioned in an earlier post that I got different results than you did.

I'm just going to stick with the HP49G+ which hasn't exhibited any anomalous behavior. I get exactly the same results as the HP48G, but the HP49G+ is about 3 times faster! You should have bought an HP49G+ instead of the 33. :-)

Hi Rodger!

Version 2.05 gives the same results Palmer has produced.

Did you do this test with a real HP49 or an emulator? Anyway, I don't think I can trust an HP49 to always give the same results as an HP48G, but so far the HP49G+ does give the same.

Emulator.
