Full Version: Stuck Printer in HP-97

Hello all,

I have an HP-97 and in overall is working great, but the printer doesn't work correctly.

The printing head seems to be working cause it moves, but the problem seems that the paper does not advance, that is, the paper is always in the same place.

Can anybody give me a solution to fix this?

Also, I already checked the middle (white) dented well and the problem is not in there since it's in good shape. (This was the only tip I saw about repairing the HP-97 printer)

Regards for all,
Jorge

If the printhead is moving back and forth correctly, then the electronics, the motor, and the gear train on the side of the printer are most likely fine.

The paper advance is operated by the head carriage. The paper feed roller has an internal ratchet mechanism operated by a ridge on part of the roller assembly engaging with the head carriage. As the head moves back and forth, it rocks one part of the ratchet and thus advances the paper.

I would look in the service manual (on the MoHPC CD-ROM set), there's an exploded view of the printer there. I would then strip the printer down (it's not that hard, but then again I have done it a few times) and examine the parts. Most likely the problem is the actual rubber rollers, in which case roughening them up with very fine wet-n-dry paper helps.

Hi Tony,

thank you for your help.

Well, the rubber rollers seem to be strange, if I press them with my nail, they just seem to be breaking in little pieces.

Perhaps I should replace them for something, do you have any experience in this matter?

Best regards,
Jorge
