Okay, I admit it, I can't find my user manual and have gotten the user function on some how. (user is displayed below the numbers). It seems to be screwing up my abillity to store numbers??

Thanks for any help.

I found a keystroke to reset the calculator, but it didn't work....grrrr

Hi, Saragrace;

please, have a look at the yellow inscription over the [RCL] (recall) key, in the keyboard faceplate: it must be [USER], right? Now, locate the [f] key beside the [ON] key. With the calculator turned to on, please do this:

- press the [f] (yellow) key and note if the small 'f' annunciator in the display turns itself on;
- now press the [RCL] key;
If everything worked fine, the USER annunciator is no longer in the display.

Let us know if you need more advice.

Cheers.

... or try g CF 9

Hi, Thibaut;

in the HP15C, flag 9 only controlls the display flashing. If flag 9 is set by any means, the display flashes. The USER annunciator is not associated to any flag normally accessed by the user in the HP15C.

Cheers.

Rats! The 'f' shows up, but the key sequence below does not clear the USER.

- press the [f] (yellow) key and note if the small 'f' annunciator in the display turns itself on;
- now press the [RCL] key;

I do not follow the gCF9 key sequence....I pressed the blue g key and number 9 and it turns on the grad function.

Thanks for the suggestions....if you have any others I'll try ém out!

Maybe just to add to Luiz'es comment:

- press the yellow [f] key and RELEASE it, then press [RCL] (and eventually release it too).

In response to Mike's suggestion:
Nope! Doesn't like that either...

Just in case someone is wondering if the calculator works, I did run the test sequence I found here:

http://www.finseth.com/hpdata/hp15c.html

ON + + inititate continuous self-test

and it did what it was supposed to. I have not done a keyboard test yet....??

More suggestions?

Thanks, Sg :}

Oops ! That's right !

Sorry for that... It will learn me not to rely on my memory but to check if I'm right... just confused with the 41 where the USER mode is flagable...

ON/+ sequence will run a loop test. You don't want this one.

Self test is as follows :
- turn your calculator OFF (press the ON button, make sure the screen clears)
- press the X key (multiply key) AND DO NOT RELEASE IT
- press the ON key and RELEASE IT
- NOW release the X key

The calculator should show a flashing "running" message for 15 seconds, then finish up with a screen where all segments are litten up. This means that the self-test is successful.

Now you want to test the keyboard.

- turn your calculator OFF (press the ON button, make sure the screen clears)
- press the ./. (divide key) AND DO NOT RELEASE IT
- press the ON key and RELEASE IT
- NOW release the ./. divide key
- you should see strange characters
- begin pressing the top right key (square root key), then press the next key to the right (e^x), then next (key (10^x), till you reach the divide key. All key should show a different weird display
- do gain the sequence starting with SST, then again starting with R/S, then again with ON. NOTE that the ENTER key needs to be pressed twice, once for the 3rd and once for the 4th column
- Once you've reached the + ke, you should read 15 at the middle of the display, evidence that your keyboard passes the test.

There is the same sequence as the ON/X with ON/-, this will reset your calculator. All programs and registers will be lost, but your indicator will clear. Quite hard ball method.

Finally, the ON/. sequence will toggle between european and US number format (point/comma decimal point, and comma/point '000 separators)

...

Thibaut.be !! You are my hero! ;)

The ON/- cleared it. (It passed all the other tests too!)

I love this calculator...I hope it never dies. I started using it in a math class I am currently taking. Even after almost 20 years of rare use, I still am so used to the key strokes I can't change over to a newer HP!

Thanks so much for everyone's help!

Sg

Thanks for having been of any support. I guess nearly every memeber of this forum could have helped you.

As a side note, I'd recommend you to tun the self test and keyboard test sequences, just to make sure your calculator is not damaged.

As many of us, no one would part of a 11c or a 15C. I'd highly recommend you to get a copy of the user manual, paper or digital version, as your calc does holds a lot of other treasures !
